WHY ROTATE & ADD VARIETY?
We don't eat the same thing in the same amounts everyday, so why should our pets? Many of us already practice the art of adding variety into our diets (fish one week & steak another (if you eat meat), and a plethora of different types of veggies/fruits/legumes on a rotation). Why are our pets an exception? Our pets can also reap the benefits of a highly varied species appropriate raw diet. Well you say, "what if I can't feed a raw diet". Balance, variety and rotation applies to ALL types of feeders, whether that be raw, kibble, home-cooked etc. If you feed home-cooked or kibble to your animal, from my experience, rotation and variety is even more important!
In my opinion, it is very important to practice protein rotation and add variety into a dog's meal. You may ask well "why can't I just feed an all chicken or all beef diet?" - well because different meat protein types have different amounts of vitamins and minerals! If one is just feeding one meat protein type everyday to their animal, their animal could be lacking in important amounts of vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients. If you feed extras, such as a powdered probiotic or something like mushroom broth, from my experience, it has been beneficial to rotate amongst the type of probiotic (raw goat milk, kefir etc.) or add mushroom broth one week, while adding a pureed veggie/herb puree another week (these are just examples of possible extras you might add to your dog's diet) - VARYING THE TYPE & AMOUNT OF EXTRAS IS KEY! This helps keep my dog's body sensitive to those types of extras, so that the extras and supplements I give them are doing the most beneficial thing for their body, health and well-being.
Adding variety into your dog's diet, in my opinion, is one of the most beneficial and important things you can do for your animal. As mentioned above, variety applies to all types of diets, whether that be a raw diet, kibble diet, home-cooked diets etc.
Everyone adds variety in different ways. I will be listing what has worked for me below and what has worked for others below.

So...how do you add fresh food variety into your dog's meals?
DISCLAIMER: It is always important to do your own research first in regards to raw feeding or feeding fresh foods for your pet (dog or cat). Every animal is different! What may work great for some may not work great for others. It is important to know that if you are a beginner at raw feeding, there are tons of ways to feed fresh raw foods to your pets (commercially prepared, freeze dried etc.). Starting out can be a little difficult, so if you do your research accordingly, then you'll have more knowledge about EVERY aspect of raw feeding. Remember, if you are not ready to feed a raw diet to your pets, wait to transition and utilize the help of experienced raw feeders, connect with integrative veterinarians, read books geared towards a holistic dog diet and gain knowledge from all of your research so you can effectively give your dog the nutrition it needs to thrive.
